Apple’s Macbook Woes

Have you heard the blogosphere rumblings about the Macbook Pro’s battery bulge? I thought it was an isolated problem until I saw today’s BBC UK article: Is Apple Feeling The Heat.

Apparently they are, in fact, feeling the heat. Take a look at this link to flickr search on the macbook’s battery. It appears that the battery starts out by shutting off at 30% left. That seems to be the first warning sign. Then, overheating causes the battery compartment to swell, eventually breaking open like the picture above.

The story says that the reason Apple is getting attention is because of their success. Not sure I really agree, I think it’s more that people are better able to connect when they have issues like this and the mainstream press hears about it earlier than they would have before due to this. However, Apple’s success does make them a target.

Do you have an issue with your macbook pro? Will you still buy another Apple laptop (duh, I know you will…)? The consensus seems to be that most will still buy an Apple laptop, but not when it first comes out.

  1. There’s no way that’s possible, right?! Macs never used to be quite that. I’m aged enough to recall the very first like that had input recognition AND two clicks buttons, forget all this fancy stuff they have anymore.
