Hello SleepyBlogger readers! Robyn has graciously invited me to guest post, and I’m happy to have the chance to contribute to her fantastic blog. I’m Wendy Piersall from eMoms at Home, a blog about entrepreneurialism, home business, blogging and online marketing.

As a busy mom of three, I did a lot of my holiday shopping online this year. Thanks to the Toys R Us / Amazon breakup, I had to shop both sites this time around – mostly because Toys R Us has snagged quite a few exclusive distribution rights on some very in-demand toys.

The interesting part was that Toys R Us is now offering Google Checkout as a payment option. But the more interesting part was that it didn’t work. There comes a point in the online shopping process in which one hesitates to click more than once on a button, lest double charges appear on a bill. I tried to use Google Checkout – which was enticing because they were offering $10 off of any order of $30 or more. But the page simply wouldn’t load.

I ended up paying the full price. In fact, the ONLY reason I even went ahead with the order was because one toy in my cart had been particularly difficult to find – and it was the one toy my son wanted the most this year. Perhaps it was a simple glitch, but with brands such as “Google” and “Toys R Us”, I expect a seamless business transaction. Period.

It makes me wonder if there are still some bugs they are working out – which might explain why they still aren’t charging anyone for their service!

  1. Yikes, sounds like a raw deal Wendy. Thanks for the heads up. I was an early proponent of Checkout. I’m hoping they get their act together ASAP.

Wendy – funny seeing you here. I agree that with two companies of that stature they should have really tested the site well. I ran into something similar with Comcast the other day (but that is a rant for my blog later this week).

Haha.. it looks weird too, seeing you at the first comment ;) Now we know. I haven’t had the opportunity to have a go at Google checkout though, but I stick to Paypal! :P

  4. I agree, commenting on my own blog is bizarre, especially to a post and not to another person’s comment. Now this post has 4 comments, 2 of which are mine LOL
