Start a Conversation

Take a look at the Conversation Blog. It’s a European-slanted blog that looks to track the online conversation as it relates to the European world.  Phillippe is a regular contributor to the group and he usually has some great online advice.  Looks like he’s been at it a while, so he knows what he is doing:

Profession: Public Relations Manager for an international IT/Consulting corporation and owner/manager of Conversations.be

Experience: more than a decade in Public Relations, specialising in crisis communications, media relations and since 1996 in “online PR”.  I started my career with Porter Novelli International in Brussels helping clients such as FedEx, Iomega and APME among others. Four years later I moved to an in house position with a major IT/Consulting company where I run the day to day PR/External Communications for Belgium & Luxembourg.

This blog was the target of the LinkedIN Bloggers blogboost this week, so check him out and let him know how you found him 🙂

Blogosphere Popularity

Sometimes the blogosphere DOES feel like high school again. With Technorati and Feedster telling us who is Prom King and Queen so much, what’s a lowly geek gal to do?
I really didn’t hate High School all that much, even though I AM a geek, because I am also a social networker (odd). So, to see a blog comparing the blogosphere to a country club doesn’t really unnerve me at all, in fact I agree with DJHowatt. I think that’s exactly what it is.

<DJHowatt> often proclaims that while technology is an enabler and that nothing has really changed. Humans still seek and uplift experts (the A-lister hierarchy) and that massive social networks are still limited to the amount of individuals a human can have in his or her network. — Jeremiah Owyang

Of course, it might unnerve me more if I was having a difficult time ‘fitting in’.

However, no offense to the A-list bloggers, but I highly doubt many of them were Prom Queen and King. I think blogs are a more level playing field. You don’t have to be gorgeous, you just have to be witty, insightful and engaging to get a ‘following.’

Doesn’t hurt if you’re cute, but it’s really not nearly as important as it is in High School or at the Country Club.

So, is technology changing the world? Yes and No.

As King Solomon said, There is nothing new under the sun…”

There will always be popular people, but now I actually stand as good a chance of being one as a cheerleader or a member of the Country Club (probably better).

Teten on PR

What is Web 2.0 as it relates to PR and marketing? How are the online tools (social networking sites, writely, basecamp, backpackit, 30boxes, IRC, forums, blogs and podcasts) affecting today’s PR?

But these tools are not just recreational – they are rapidly becoming essential tools for business. They are part of a “social software” toolkit that includes blogs, relationship capital management software, advanced contact managers, virtual communities, web conferencing, instant messaging, and much more.

The Virtual Handshake gives you the tools to take advantage of these new technologies to become dramatically more successful in business. Just as online dating has revolutionized the way singles connect, very similar technologies are revolutionizing the way that businesspeople close deals.

Podcasting Friends

The podcast roundtable is really seeing some movement. I’m so excited to be a part of this group!

Martin, a prolific podcaster, wrote about us today on his Computer World blog:

Finally, along with my friend Jeremiah Owyang, I interviewed Brad Feld for another of my projects, the Podcast Roundtable. Brad is a venture capitalist who invests in a number of Web 2.0 companies, such as Feedburner, Newsgator as well as other Internet companies like StillSecure and Quova. Brad is also an influential blogger in his own right. This interview was a lot of fun for both Jeremiah and I, and I learned a few things about how venture capital works.

Ethical Dilemmas: Posting to Influence Traffic

When devising a linking strategy, what are your ethical dilemmas?

Are there any?  When you write to be “Dugg” or “Tagged”, or even to influence Google, are you being disengenuous?
Dennis McDonald in a group email post:

– selecting tags with advantage knowledge that these tags will
increase the likelihood of links

– selecting keywords to use in a blog to increase likelihood of
improved page rank for certain search engines

– selecting well trafficked blogs for posting of comments in order to
increase the number of trackbacks to your blog

– including your friends in your blogroll even though they may only
infrequently publish articles or comments that are directly relevant
to your interests.

Don’t be ashamed that you are trying to influence people’s behavious…  That’s the underlying issue behind all marketing.

Don’t worry.  If your stuff is crap, they’ll know it.  You can’t fake quality.

If they get here and then leave, you may want to revisit your content strategy.

Farewell at Creative Weblogging

FYI:  I resigned my position at the VoIP and Social Networking Weblogs at Creative Weblogging, effective 3/1.  It’s been fun.

I’ll still cover those issues here, but it will surely be different…  G’nite 😉

LinkedIN Bloggers Happenings

PR blogging

Several weeks ago I was invited to join Des Walsh, Dave Taylor and Dennis McDonald as a co-moderator on the LinkedIN bloggers forum. It’s been fun seeing the inside of a really growing Yahoo! group.

Over the past few days, the members have proposed some great ideas:

Link Boost
Jim Stroud suggested a random blog would be chosen and blogged on each week. This week it’s Itzy Sabo’s Email Overload Blog. They get, not only a link, but a mention on your blog, so they might gain SEO AND traffic/exposure. What a great idea!

OPML Of All The Blogs In The Directory
J Wynia created an OPML file of all the Directory Blogs (though not all members have taken the time to input their info into the directory). I’ve added it to my blog reader and I asked Matthew at Megite to create a personal page for the LinkedIN bloggers. Sweet…

The collaboration I have enjoyed as a member and as a moderator for the group has been wonderful and I invite all of you (LinkedIN members/bloggers) to visit the group’s Yahoo! page (in my left sidebar) and see if we would be a fit for you!

Revverberation and PR Offer

photo from http://www.sxc.hu/profile/HenksterTake a look at the unofficial revver blog

www.revverberation.com.

Wish someone would create one for Mooble. What a great PR tool!

With blog like this, the ones that are unofficial, readers KNOW what they are reading the straight dope and they take the bad as the truth AND the good as the truth.

As long as your service is, in fact, a good one, there’s going to be a lot more good than bad.

In fact, here’s a shout out: If someone DOES create an unofficial Mooble blog, I’ll help publicize it here and on Mooble.

Megite Succeeds

megiteMatthew from Megite sent me a Megite page created from my own OPML file. In fact, he used the bloglines list, that probably took a bit of tinkering to make work, and did it same day.

I am MUCHO impressed. Take a look at my megite page

The ONLY thing I’d change was the visuals. I like a smaller font and I’m a sucker for the whole gradients and rounded edges thingies.

I’m sure I’ll end up using this daily.
